"We can help save energy!"
Windows make up only 10% of a homes insulated shell - yet, up to 50% of the homes heating & cooling energy pours through the window.

As a Hunter Douglas window fashions dealer, you can help. By installing Hunter Douglas window fashions in a client's home, you can reduce the heating, cooling and lighting energy needs in three significant ways:
  • Reduce heat flow (heat loss & heat gain) through the windows.
  • Control solar heat (heat energy from the sun) by allowing it in winter & reducing it in the summer.
  • Enhance daylighting ( the use of natural light) by diffusing and dispersing sunlight in a room.

Insulation
Heat flow through windows is graphically shown in the infrared photos above - where the red areas indicate energy loss. The color difference between the windows and the walls shows the contrast in resistance to heat flow.

By adding insulation with window coverings, you'll control light and privacy while making a fashion statement in the room. Products like Duette® Architella™ Honeycomb Shades, form air pockets for superior insulation between the window and the room.

How much energy is really saved?
R-values measure resistance to heat flow.
  • The walls of a contemporary home typically have an R-value of 19.
  • Standard double-pane windows only have an R-value of about 2.
  • Window coverings like Duette Architella honeycomb shades can add up to 4 points to a windows R-Value!
That means window coverings can up to triple the energy efficiency of a standard double-pane window; cutting heat loss by up to 2/3!

What does it all mean?
R-values: The higher the R-value, the more insulation that product provides and the better it is at reducing heat loss - helping to maintain comfortable room temperatures & reduce heating costs.

SHGC: Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) is the amount of solar heat that passes through a window; where 0 = none and 1 = all. The lower a product's SDGC, the less solar heat it transmits - which can help a home stay cooler in the warm summer months.

Daylighting: Daylighting softens and diffuses direct sunlight and brings it deeper into a room to brighten dark areas and reduce harsh glare.

UV Protection: Many Hunter Douglas products provide excellent UV protection to protect furniture and carpets from fading. Most of our products filer up to 99%  of the sun's harmful rays.
